National Holidays

National holidays are different everywhere in the world and risk catching travelers unaware. It's annoying to wake up one morning only to find all the banks, grocery stores, gas stations and post offices unexpectedly closed just when you need their services most. To help you plan your stay we list the national holidays in Spain and Catalunya. On these days offices, banks and many shops close, though many restaurants, bars and attractions, such as museums or other sights, stay open.

January 1 New Year's Day Any Nou
January 6 Epiphany El Dia des Reis
April 18 Good Friday Divendres Sant
April 21 Easter Monday Dilluns de Pasqua
May 1 Labor Day El Dia del Treball
August 15 Assumption Assumpció
September 11 National Day El Dia Nacional de Catalunya
October 12 Spanish National Day Festa de la Hispanitat
November 1 All Saints Day El Dia de Tots Sants
December 8 Immaculate Conception Inmaculada Concepció
December 25 Christmas Day Nadal
December 26 St. Stephen's Day El Dia de Sant Esteve

Sunday
Keep in mind that Sunday is a sacred non-working day. Some small food stores may be open Sunday morning but most stores will be closed, though restaurants and café/bars will mostly stay open. Please bear in mind that the staff at your house may take Sundays off too. Your Local Host will confirm this with you.
